A Personal Welcome

Healing is a journey best taken with compassionate support. We invite you to hear directly from our founder, Sara Shaw, about our counseling philosophy and our commitment to creating a safe space for your emotional wellness.

Meet Sara
Welcome. I'm Sara Shaw, LPC, founder of Ahava Mind. "Start before you're ready. You are one decision away from a completely different life." — Mel Robbins Taking the first step toward counseling isn't always easy. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, carrying the weight of past experiences, navigating a difficult life transition, or simply wondering if therapy is right for you, you're not alone. Seeking support isn't a sign of weakness; it's one of the most courageous investments you can make in yourself. Our goal is to create a space where you feel safe, comfortable, and accepted exactly as you are. Therapy doesn't require you to have all the answers or even know where to begin. It simply starts with a conversation. Therapy should feel like a partnership, not something that's done to you, but something we work through together. Every person has a unique story, and we strive to provide a compassionate, collaborative, and judgment-free environment where you can process life's challenges, discover your strengths, and move toward meaningful, lasting change. Before becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor, I spent nearly three decades serving our community in law enforcement. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of helping people through some of the most difficult moments of their lives, responding to crises, supporting victims, working with families, and witnessing firsthand the lasting effects of trauma, grief, chronic stress, and loss. I have also served as a School Resource Officer, working closely with students, teachers, administrators, and families. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the emotional challenges faced by educators and those who dedicate their lives to helping others. Through both my professional and personal experiences, I have also developed an understanding of the emotional demands placed on legal professionals who are regularly exposed to conflict, tragedy, and traumatic subject matter. Those experiences shaped my belief that healing begins when people feel genuinely heard, understood, and supported. Today, I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief, relationship challenges, burnout, compassion fatigue, and major life transitions. While I welcome adults from all walks of life, I have a special passion for serving those who spend their lives supporting others. Whether you're processing childhood experiences, recovering from a recent crisis, coping with the cumulative stress of a demanding career, or simply feeling stuck, my goal is to help you build practical coping skills, strengthen resilience, and rediscover hope. Together, we'll identify your strengths, work through challenges at a pace that feels right for you, and create meaningful, lasting change. At Ahava Mind, our philosophy is simple: Heal. Grow. Thrive. It would be an honor to walk alongside you on your journey. Because here's something I truly believe: Therapy is a lot like routine maintenance for your mind and heart. You don't have to wait until everything is falling apart to benefit from it. Sometimes life becomes heavy, and having someone to help you carry the load can make all the difference. So, no matter where you are in your journey, I'm glad you're here. I look forward to meeting you. Supporting Those Who Spend Their Lives Supporting Others: While I enjoy working with adults from all backgrounds, I have a special interest in serving professionals whose work often involves high levels of responsibility, chronic stress, trauma exposure, or compassion fatigue. •First Responders •Police Officers •Sheriff's Deputies •State Troopers •Federal Law Enforcement •Officers •Firefighters •EMTs & Paramedics •Emergency Dispatchers •Corrections Professionals •Educators •Teachers •School Administrators •School Counselors •School Psychologists •School Support Staff •Healthcare Professionals •Nurses •Physicians •Advanced Practice Providers •Therapists •Social Workers •Medical Assistants •Healthcare Support Staff •Legal Professionals •Attorneys •Prosecutors •Public Defenders •Judges •Magistrates •Guardians ad Litem •Court Personnel •Victim Advocates •Probation Officers Additional Populations: •Veterans & Military Personnel •Caregivers Areas of Focus: •Trauma & PTSD •EMDR Therapy •Anxiety •Depression •Grief & Loss •Life Transitions •Stress, Burnout & Compassion •Fatigue •Relationship Concerns •Women's Mental Health •Personal Growth & Resilience

Your Therapy Journey

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step, and it's normal to have questions. Our goal is to make the process as comfortable, transparent, and collaborative as possible. From our very first conversation, you'll be met with compassion, professionalism, and a commitment to helping you feel understood. Here's what you can expect as we begin your journey together.
Counseling Philosophy
Confidentiality
Therapy is a collaborative, practical process grounded in compassion and evidence-based care. Our role is to provide a safe, nonjudgmental space where you can gain clarity, build resilience, and develop tools that continue serving you long after therapy ends. Together, we'll work to understand not only what you're experiencing, but why, and how to create meaningful, lasting change.
Your privacy is of the utmost importance to us. Everything discussed in therapy is kept confidential in accordance with Ohio law and professional ethical standards, with limited legal exceptions involving safety or circumstances required by law. These exceptions will be reviewed with you during your intake so you fully understand your rights and protections.
Complimentary Consultation
Ongoing Care
Embarking on therapy begins with a simple, free 15-minute consultation. This is a gentle opportunity for us to connect, discuss your current needs, and determine if our practice is the right fit for your healing journey.
If another provider would better serve you, I will gladly provide a referral to help you find the right support.
We prioritize your peace of mind with a HIPAA-compliant client portal for all sessions. Whether navigating trauma, grief, or life transitions, you can expect clear confidentiality, transparent session details, and a high standard of professional care. YOUR FIRST APPOINTMENT Your initial session is longer than a typical therapy appointment because it serves as a comprehensive diagnostic intake. During this visit, we'll discuss: •What brings you to counseling •Your current concerns and symptoms •Your personal, medical, family, and mental health history •Your strengths, goals, and what you hope to achieve through therapy This thorough assessment allows us to gain a complete understanding of your unique experiences so we can develop the most effective treatment plan together. YOUR SECOND APPOINTMENT At your second session, we'll begin putting the pieces together. We'll review: •Your diagnosis (if applicable) •The symptoms and clinical information that support it •How your experiences and history contribute to what you're facing today •The evidence-based counseling approaches and modalities we'll use to help you reach your goals We believe clients deserve to understand why they're experiencing what they are—not simply receive a diagnosis. Our goal is to help you gain insight and equip you with practical tools that foster lasting growth and healing.
In-Person & Virtual Appointments
Insurance & Payment
Whether you prefer meeting face-to-face or from the comfort of your home, we offer both in-person and secure telehealth appointments to accommodate your needs and schedule.
At this time, we are a self-pay practice and are not yet accepting insurance. We are currently in the credentialing process with several insurance companies.
If you hope to use insurance in the future, please get in touch with us to inquire whether we are currently applying to become an in-network provider with your specific insurance carrier.
Payment is due at the time of service. HSA and FSA cards are accepted when eligible.
Our goal isn't simply to help you feel better, it's to help you understand yourself better.
Because when insight is paired with practical tools, lasting change becomes possible.
